Bonnie N.F. Law (Associate Professor, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University)

Biography

Dr. Bonnie N.F. Law received the BEng (Hons) degree with first-class honors from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 1993 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Tasmania, Australia, in 1997. She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her research interests include signal and image processing, and machine learning. Recently, she has extended her study into various new applications, such as information security and bioinformatics. The former includes source camera identification and network traffic anomaly detection, while the latter involves gene expression and DNA sequence analysis. She has served as a committee member for many IEEE/APSIPA conferences, the technical committee member of APSIPA TC on Biomedical Signal Processing and System, and APSIPA TC on Multimedia Security and Forensics.

Berrak Sisman (Assistant Professor, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Singapore)

Biography

Dr. Berrak Sisman is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). She received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2020. Her PhD was fully-funded by Singapore International Graduate Award. Prior to joining SUTD, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the National University of Singapore, and a Visiting Researcher with Columbia University, New York, United States. During her Ph.D., she was a Visiting Scholar with The Centre for Speech Technology Research (CSTR), the University of Edinburgh in 2019. She was also attached to RIKEN Advanced Intelligence Project, Japan in 2018. She has published in leading journals and conferences, including IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, Neural Networks, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, ASRU, INTERSPEECH, and ICASSP. She is currently Member of IEEE SLTC and General Coordinator of ISCA Postdoc Advisory Committee.

Jiaying Liu (Associate Professor, Peking University Boya Young Fellow

Biography

Jiaying Liu received the PhD degree (Hons.) in computer science from Peking University, Beijing China, 2010. She is currently an Associate Professor, Boya Young Fellow with the Wangxuan Institute of Computer Technology, Peking University, China. She has authored more than 100 technical articles in refereed journals and proceedings, and holds 55 granted patents. Her current research interests include multimedia signal processing, compression, and computer vision. She is a senior member of IEEE, CSIG and CCF. She was a visiting scholar with the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, from 2007 to 2008. She was a visiting researcher with Microsoft Research Asia, in 2015 supported by the Star Track Young Faculties Award. She has served as a member of Multimedia Systems and Applications Technical Committee (MSA TC), and Visual Signal Processing and Communications Technical Committee (VSPC TC) in IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. She is also a member of Image, Video, and Multimedia (IVM) and Signal and Information Processing Theory and Methods (SIPTM) Technical Committee in APSIPA. She received the IEEE ICME 2020 Best Paper Award and IEEE MMSP 2015 Top10% Paper Award. She has also served as the Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans. on Image Processing, the IEEE Trans. on Circuit System for Video Technology and Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation, the Technical Program Chair of IEEE ICME-2021/ACM ICMR-2021, the Area Chair of CVPR-2021/ECCV-2020/ICCV-2019, and the CAS Representative at the ICME Steering Committee. She was the APSIPA Distinguished Lecturer (2016-2017).

Naoko Nitta (Associate Professor, Osaka University)

Biography

NAOKO NITTA received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from Osaka University, in 1998, 2000, and 2003, respectively. From 2002 to 2004, she was a Research Fellow with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. From 2003 to 2004, she was a Visiting Scholar with Columbia University. She is currently an Associate Professor with the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University. Her research interests include multimedia content and social media analysis.

Z. Jane Wang (Professor, University of British Columbia, Canada)

Biography

Z. Jane Wang received the B.Sc. degree from Tsinghua University in 1996 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Connecticut in 2000 and 2002, respectively, all in electrical engineering. She has been Research Associate at the University of Maryland, College Park from 2002 to 2004. Since Aug. 2004, she has been with the ECE dept. at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, and she is currently Professor. She is an IEEE Fellow, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE) and a member of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists of the Royal Society of Canada. Her research interests are in the broad areas of statistical signal processing and machine learning, with current focuses on digital media and biomedical data analytics. She has been key Organizing Committee Member for numerous IEEE conferences and workshops. She has been Associate Editor for the IEEE TSP, SPL, TMM, TIFS, TBME, and SPM, and Area Editor of SPM, and she is currently serving as Editor-in-Chief for IEEE SPL.

Min Wu (Professor and Distinguished Scholar – Teacher at University of Maryland)

Biography

Min Wu is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is currently serving as Associate Dean of Engineering for Graduate Affairs. She received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering -- automation and the B.A. degree in economics from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1996 with the highest honors, and her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University in 2001. At UMD, she leads the Media, Analytics, and Security Team (MAST), with main research interests on information security and forensics, multimedia signal processing, and applications of data science and machine learning for health and IoT. Dr. Wu was elected as IEEE Fellow, AAAS Fellow, and Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. She chaired the IEEE Technical Committee on Information Forensics and Security, and served as Vice President - Finance of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. She was a founding member of APSIPA and elected to serve on the Board of Governors of APSIPA (2019-2021). She has been elected to serve as President-Elect (2022-2023) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.

Helen, Mei Ling, Meng (Professor, Chinese University of Hong Kong.)

Biography

Helen Meng (Fellow, IEEE) received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA. In 1998, she joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, where she is currently the Chair Professor with the Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management. She was the former Department Chairman and the Associate Dean of Research with the faculty of Engineering. Her research interests include human–computer interaction via multimodal and multilingual spoken language systems, spoken dialog systems, computer-aided pronunciation training, speech processing in assistive technologies, health- related applications, and Big Data decision analytics. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing between 2009 and 2011. She was the recipient of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Leo L. Beranek Meritorious Service Award in 2019. She was also on the Elected Board Member of the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) and an International Advisory Board Member. She is a fellow of IEEE, ISCA, HKIE, and HKCS.
